Whether it's breakfast or dinner, you'll dine like royalty in the American Club's Wisconsin Room.
The Wisconsin Room at the American Club is downright regal. Once a large cafeteria for the immigrants who settled in Wisconsin to work at the Kohler factory, it's now an opulent dining room -- and the only resemblance to that earlier time is that it still serves food. And, oh, the food. This is the place to go for breakfast at the American Club, and they pull no stops. The menu is rich with traditional Midwestern fare, all prepared with upscale flair. Choose from steel-cut oatmeal or a spiced chorizo burrito, and the creme brulee French toast leaves most diners speechless. Our personal favorite, however, is the Wisconsin aged-cheddar omelet, with applewood-smoked bacon, Wisconsin sausage links, caramelized onions and five-year Hook's cheddar cheese. Yes, it is as good as it sounds. Beyond the menu is the daily breakfast buffet ($20); Sundays, the buffet offers mimosas, exotic pastries, fruit, pasta, smoked salmon, shrimp cocktail, deviled eggs, cheese, bread, sausage, bacon, hash browns, breakfast pizza, and desserts, plus four chef stations: omelets, buttermilk pancakes, hickory smoked ham carving, and creme brulee French toast. It's divine. The dinner menu is equally impressive, as is the Friday night seafood buffet. (The Wisconsin Room is closed for lunch.) Best of all is the grand decor, with floor-to-ceiling windows and floral print drapery, chandeliers, cloth tables, plush high-backed chairs. Excellent service is a bonus. Be sure to make time for a cup of tea or a glass of wine in the adjacent library on your way in, and really bask in the history the American Club has preserved so well. Dress is resort casual.
