Flemish House lets you sample one of Chicago's most elegant neighborhoods while giving you easy access to some of the city's best-known restaurants and stores.
If you love the hustle and bustle of Chicago but are ready for it to go away at the end of the day, Flemish House of Chicago Bed and Breakfast may be the place you're seeking. Located on a leafy, quiet street in Chicago's historic Gold Coast neighborhood, it offers a reprieve from the crowds but keeps you in easy walking distance of Lake Michigan, Water Tower Place and the restaurants/stores/bars of State and Rush. This is not a traditional B&B. Each room is a small apartment, complete with full kitchen and a doorbell outside. Breakfast is Continental-style, with juice, yogurt, fruit, muffins, milk and ground coffee left in your fridge, cold cereal in the cabinets, and plates, glasses and cooking utensils at your disposal. The one-bedroom units look down on the street below and the studios face a small garden. A television, full bath and free Wi-Fi are part of the deal. Best of all, the per-night prices -- $175 to $250 -- are equivalent to what you might pay in a Michigan Avenue hotel. We've stayed in hotels on and just off of Michigan Avenue, and our experience is always that you never quite get away from the crowds, even late at night. There are always people everywhere, which is fun and exciting, but not necessarily relaxing. Here you get the best of both. Parking is one consideration to keep in mind, however. The only option if you bring your car is to park it at a lot at the end of the block. This is fairly convenient but expensive -- $25 a day.
