It's worth any wait to experience Vintage's country-casual ambience (the booths are tucked into former horse stalls), prompt and pleasant waitstaff, and contemporary world cuisine, including German specialties. Some of the menu items are small plates, perfect for diners who want a little bit of lots of things. For instance, the sausage samplers include grilled links of weisswurst, knackwurst and bratwurst, German potato salad and red cabbage.
Something else to love here: Each menu item includes a suggested Stone Hill wine. The sausage sampler ($14) pairs nicely with a glass of the Steinberg red, and the vintage sampler (a German montage of schnitzel, knackwurst, sauerbraten, braised red cabbage and a potato pancake for $14) matches well with a glass of the recommended Steinberg white (light and fruity). Both samplers and wines are wonderful, and the potato pancake is a highlight, crunchy on the outside with lots of grated potato pieces on the inside. The desserts—all made daily at the restaurant—include a couple of different cheesecakes, bread pudding, German chocolate cake and German chocolate cream pie. Served cold, the chocolate cream pie is like a rich chocolate pudding with a crusty coconut pecan topping—wow!
Entrees hover around $17; specials run up to about $20. Sandwiches, salads, soups and appetizers will set you back about $5 to $9.
