Oval Beach has been rated one of the 25 best shorelines in the world, with good reason. The swimming area is wide, deep and full of the fine sand that defines this region. From the parking area, low, grassy dunes head inland, providing a nice dose of coastal scenery and the lovely rustling sound of grasses waving in the lake breeze. Meanwhile, Saugatuck lighthouses and soaring shoreline dunes rise up in the distance. At a hulking height of 600 feet, Mount Baldhead is the largest dune and a popular climb for locals and tourists.
During the peak summer season from Memorial Day through Labor Day, a $6 daily fee lets guests park in a moderate-size lot right on the beach, making for a blessedly short haul if you’ve packed coolers and beach chairs. For snacks and drinks, there's a concession stand in the shower-restroom building above the swimming beach.
