Oink's Dutch Treat

Editor's Review
If you're vacationing in southwest Michigan, you go to Oink's. Period. The legendary ice cream shop on New Buffalo's main drag is the signature stop when you're dusting sand off your feet after a day at the beach and need a cool treat. The shop is packed with pig- and ice cream-themed memorabilia. You can make a spectator sport of simply staring at the arsenal of ice cream scoops arrayed on the ceiling. The menu includes 50-plus flavors of ice cream, including unique picks such as Marion County blackberry and cotton candy confetti. It's rich and delicious, and a "single scoop" cone is plenty for almost any appetite. (Adult cones start at $3.35 a scoop. Cash only.) In fact, on a summer evening, you'll have to hurry to finish before the cream is melting down the sides of your cone. It gets crowded inside quickly, but there are benches outside where you can sit and lick. If you need a little souvenir to take home, stop by the candy and gift shop attached to the ice cream shop.
