Luisa's uses fresh, local ingredients to serve up some of the best breakfast dishes around New Buffalo.
Other local places may have a bigger reputation for their breakfasts, but we think Luisa's offers one of the best in the area around New Buffalo. Located in an old house along the Red Arrow Highway, Luisa's adjoins the Harbert Swedish Bakery, but they're separate businesses. Luisa's delivers fresh, local ingredients in dishes more creative than the standard eggs, pancakes and biscuits-and-gravy served at most breakfast joints in Harbor Country. The setting is casual. The wooden tables and chairs are like something you'd find in a suburban home's breakfast nook, and our waiter was wearing a black T-shirt, black hat and longish hair. But he was completely polite and helpful. Paintings from local artists hang on the spare walls. Kids will love the chocolate-chip pancakes, which are light, fluffy and completely filling. In fact, on our trip, the 9-year-old in our group pegged this as the breakfast place she wanted to return to most. We also loved the huevos rancheros. For a more brunch-style choice, try the crab cakes on greens. Everything tastes completely fresh. In fact, several tables offer a view through a doorway to the the small kitchen where you can watch the chef at work on your meal.
