Look past the bar and game room, and you'll find some of Lindsborg's best Swedish fare, including darn good meatballs made by a pair of ladies who don't cook anything else.
Imagine a couple of Swedish grandmothers sitting around a kitchen making enough meatballs for a large family reunion. That's a pretty accurate image of the kitchen at this Main Street Restaurant in Lindsborg. Two elderly women come in each day to make up several batches of Swedish meatballs -- their only responsibility. Someone else is peeling potatoes for mashed potatoes, and someone else is peeling apples for homemade apple pie. The Brick House Grill is basically three venues in one: an authentic Swedish restaurant once known as the Swedish Crown, a casual American-style restaurant, and a bar/game room. Much of the menu is basic American hamburgers, chicken, and steak, but try one of the four items on the Swedish menu, such as a plate of Swedish meatballs ($10.95) with homemade mashed potatoes and whole kernel corn. The Smorgas open-faced sandwich ($5.95) is ham or turkey served on rye bread with a mustard-dill sauce and creamy cole slaw. Bread pudding with lingonberries tops off any meal, American or Swedish.
