Located just south of the Grand Glaize Bridge, J. Bruner’s surprisingly doesn't entail views of the lake, but the hand-cut steaks, impeccable service and attention to detail make it a fine-dining destination. Guests enter the restaurant on the lower level, where there's a nice lounge with live music on the weekends. The three upstairs dining rooms are all intimate and moody with dark decor, although white tablecloths and fresh flower centerpieces do lighten the mood a bit.
J. Bruner’s is famous for its tasty hand-breaded onion rings, big enough to wear as bracelets. The appetizer portion ($11) is a great way to sample some; the house specialty lobster mac and cheese is also worth ordering. For entrees, steaks, seafood and pasta are the name of the game here. The 8-ounce filet ($34) we ordered came out perfectly medium as requested, and the meat was tender and juicy. The house salad with croutons made a nice prelude; the bread and butter was nothing special though. Save room for a big fudge ice cream sundae with crunchy granola for a memorable comfort-food dessert. Yummy.
