Outstanding barbecue, house-made potato salad and great service define this little spot.
This barbecue is so good that it might give Kansas City BBQ a run for its reputation. But Oliva Kennedy says she has never even tried Kansas City cue -- she just has done what she thinks is right since opening for business in 2004. Everything is made on-site and fresh. If you like a mustard-based potato salad, you'll like the offerings here. Sandwiches of pulled pork and brisket start at $6.95, and a plate of ribs is well worth the $12.95 price. You'll often see Ollie, as she likes to be called, running back and forth from the smoker to the kitchen to the dining room to make sure everything is shipshape. Service is well-oiled. Open for breakfast lunch and dinner, seven days a week. Try the fruit pies, made fresh from wild blackberries and gooseberries picked in the hills of Laclede County ($3). It was fresh out of the oven.
