Food lovers from throughout the region come to dine at Nonna's, an upscale Italian restaurant with a seasonal menu at The Homestead resort. All of the menu items are listed in Italian, and the menu appears to change weekly. We sampled the tagliere della casa ($16), an Italian meat and cheese tray that comes with a mound of old-style shaved salami, a mound of prosciutto and several hunks of specialty cheeses. After bringing it to your table, your server will drizzle the tray with olive oil, adding an authentic touch to the dish. The zuppa d'asparagi ($7) is a cream of Norconk Farms asparagus, made with toasted pine nuts and tomato bruschetta, which give the creamy soup a citrusy kick and chunky texture. The gnocchi di patate al sugo di pomodoro e mozzarella ($13) is a vegetarian dish of potato gnocchi with basil leaves, crispy eggplant and house-made melted mozzarella on top. The dish is fresh and has a lot of interesting textures and flavors between the soft gnocchi, the crispy eggplant and the basil leaves. The anatra al rosmarino is a crispy half-duckling served with cannellini beans, rosemary, roasted garlic and a cherry chafia reduction ($21). For dessert, try the chocolate Napoleon, a light and fluffy milk chocolate mousse sandwiched between layers of phyllo dough, topped with a dollop of whipped cream. It's served with a serrated knife to make for easier cutting -- it was messy, but it tasted wonderful. The desserts are on full display in the front window of Nonna's when you first walk in, making for a lovely tableau and drawing plenty of oohs and aahs from patrons. Overall, the service was thoughtful, funny and friendly, and the staff really worked to make you sure you felt at home.
