Dine on Italian comfort food at this pleasant St. Louis trattoria.
In 1995, brothers Steve and Jamie Komorek opened this St. Louis trattoria and named it after their mother, Marcella. Following the traditional role of the trattoria in Italy, the brothers built a family restaurant with a menu that revolves around Italian comfort food. They also vowed to focus on local ingredients. This restaurant feels cozy. Maybe it's because it's decorated in a warm saffron color, or maybe it's the attractive wine bottles stacked all over, or maybe the brothers have truly succeeded in conveying a family feel to the dining room. Whatever the reason, we felt at home as soon as we walked in. And the food is just as impressive. Nothing fancy, just honest-to-goodness good pastas, risottos, seafood and steaks, all cooked Italian style. Interesting combinations include the rigatoni with large Gulf shrimp and roasted cauliflower, whole wheat pasta with roasted vegetables and toasted pine nuts, and a balsamic grilled hanger steak. Pasta dishes cost about $15, while meat entrees cost a few dollars more. The wine list includes about 200 varieties with a strong representation of Italian wines.
