Nosh on paninis, wraps or Irish fare washed down with a specialty beer at this fun cafe near the famous Horicon Marsh.
You know you've hit small-town pay dirt when you step into Celtic Crossroads, a delightfully impressive cafe for a town of about 5,000. Situated on Mayville's main drag, Celtic Crossroads is a coffee shop/restaurant/bar/hangout spot all in one. The joint's Irish theme is evident in its decor, which features Celtic-inspired artwork, shamrocks, gifts and even immense Irish flags, and in its menu, where you'll find items like Irish stew, Guinness and Irish coffee. The Crossroads is known for its impressive beer menu, which offers numerous ales, stouts and lagers from the British Isles, such as New Castle Ale, Twisted Thistle IPA and Smithwick's. Several imported whiskeys are also available, such as Connemara Irish Whiskey. The food is good, although nothing too innovative -- wraps, paninis, soups, salads, Mexican dishes and "flatzas" (flatbread with various toppings). But there are also numerous daily specials, from soups and salads to entrees and desserts. Prices are modest ($5.75-$8.25). If you're in the mood to hang out with a latte or beer, the Celtic has a cozy reading area complete with leather couches, a table, reading lamp, and a gazillion books and magazines.
