This kitschy former speakeasy serves seriously fresh seafood, steaks and cocktails in an old-school setting.
With dark wood paneling, mossy-teal walls and fishing-oriented memorabilia, the Oyster Bar looks like someplace your grandparents would go for dinner. And if they live in Ft. Wayne, they probably have. However, open the menu and you'll quickly discover that this old-school eatery serves some of the most innovative and delicious cuisine in town. From the namesake crustaceans served raw on the half-shell to a nice selection of market-priced fresh catches with six different preparation options, the Oyster Bar is every pescatarian's dream. You could order steaks, pastas and such, but at a seafood restaurant of this caliber, fish is the way to go. The light-as-a-feather calamari strips are a popular appetizer; even the artfully plated side salads are noteworthy (the one with poached pears, blue cheese and dried cherries is exquisite). For those who can't make up their minds between two entrees ($20-$30), a half-and-half deal allows a small portion of each. If you can manage to save room for dessert, the classic creme brulee doesn't disappoint. Service is attentive and meals are perfectly paced. Oyster Bar is not the kind of restaurant you want to dine at every week, but for a special occasion, it's just the ticket.
