Editor's Review
This tiny greasy spoon serves up classic diner fare in an atmosphere dripping with 1950s-diner nostalgia.
If you're hankering for cheap, no-nonsense diner food for breakfast or lunch, Cindy's is the place to go. Fiercely loyal customers have been flocking here since 1952 when the place opened, and although the diner was restored to its "original splendor" in 1990, nothing really appears to have changed much over the past 50 or so years. You'll want to time your visit just right; Cindy's only has 15 counter seats, and they fill fast. The dining quarters are so close you're literally rubbing elbows with the person seated next to you. Cindy's offers a full breakfast and lunch menu of omelets, patty melts, chili and other classic diner fare, but "Garbage" is THE dish to order -- eggs scrambled with cheese, slivered ham and diced onion, rolled into a log and then browned until crispy around the edges. Follow the locals' lead and cap off your meal with a Murphy's Dime Store Donut from the case for dessert. This breakfast and lunch spot is open until 2 p.m. every day. Previously cash-only, Cindy's recently started accepting credit and debit cards -- happy news.
