One of the original independent shops in Lincoln Square, Exclusive Gifts preserves the old neighborhood's ethnic heritage in its collectibles, which are imported from Germany and Eastern Europe. Although it's cluttered, this is the only place in the area selling traditional, handmade German keepsakes year-round. Hand-scrawled "Do Not Touch" signs remind shoppers to ask for assistance when trying to reach a charming figurine on the packed shelves of nutcrackers, smokers, music boxes, birthday rings, advent candle sets and creche scenes by centuries-old European purveyors. There is a strong selection of Steinbach Company (nutcrackers and smokers, $250), Hollohhara hand-painted figurines and Linda Lindquist Baldwin antique Santa figures of papier mache. Other collectible brands sold include Schumann, Granhainchen, Seiffener, Schwibbogen, Schmid and Christian Ulbricht.
