New Harmony's only fine-dining restaurant offers a solid (if somewhat predictable) menu of seafood, pasta, chicken and steaks.
Part of the New Harmony Inn complex, the Red Geranium Restaurant is the sole fine-dining option in the tiny town of New Harmony. The service is friendly, and the decor is upscale rustic, with heavy wooden beams, a fireplace and cheerful red chairs. Diners here will find a solid -- if not particularly innovative -- menu of seafood, pasta, chicken and steaks. On our recent visit, we enjoyed the shrimp and butternut-squash bisque ($4.95), a creamy and peppery soup dotted with big chunks of shrimp. We also loved the tilapia fillet sauteed in brown butter ($18.95), which came perfectly cooked and was served with a scrumptious medley of Brussels sprouts, cauliflower and roasted sweet potatoes. The dessert menu is a bit predictable, with options such as crme brulee, apple pie and cheesecake ($4-7). We suggest the bread pudding, a generous serving (big enough for two) topped with a memorable bourbon glaze.
