Looking to stay in downtown Detroit without spending like a Midas? Try this stylish place.
While the stylish and comfortable Greektown Casino-Hotel is part of the Greektown Casino, it is physically separate, and really a great base from which to explore Detroit's downtown. At the hotel, you're in the heart of the dining and shopping scene in Greektown, and within a couple of blocks of the Tigers' Comerica Park, the Lions' Ford Field, and the Theater District. Greektown Casino has a People Mover stop, which can bring you to the Red Wings' Joe Louis Arena, Cobo Hall convention center and the Renaissance Center's shops and restaurants. The hotel has 400 guest rooms and suites; the decor is warm with a subtle Midas touch. The upper floors have the best views, of course. We were glad to stay in these extraordinarily comfortable and stylish rooms, even though we never set foot in the casino. Note, though, that since the hotel has the revenue stream from the casino, room rates tend to be a bit lower than most other downtown hotels. Amenities include a decked-out fitness center, free parking, lounge and Bistro 555 (full-service restaurant). From $149.
