Editor's Review

This bed-and-breakfast in a historic Richmond neighborhood surround guests with elegant Victorian decor.

Built by a lumber baron in 1890, this massive redbrick Queen Anne house offers gorgeous woodwork and stained glass, plus super clean and comfortable guest rooms. Guests stay in one of six spacious rooms discerningly furnished with antiques and period reproductions. All but one of the rooms have king beds (the last one features a queen), and all feature private baths and cable TV. For breakfast, owner Jill Nelson serves bread, fruit and homemade entrees, like baked French toast, in the beautiful dining room. In the evening, a public sitting room draws guests for desserts. Room start at $99 per night. The same owners also run the nearby Martha E. Perry Bed and Breakfast, which features similar furnishings and equally delightful hospitality. The Nelsons live on the top floor, and visitors there may meet the owners' charming children.
