Lazlo's, a long-time Haymarket anchor that opened in 1991, bills itself as Nebraska's first brew pub. It's become so popular over the years there's a second location in Omaha and a sister restaurant, Fireworks, in another part of Lincoln. The brew pub is a solid pick for suds and the fun atmosphere of a brew pub, and can hold its own on the food. The interior is comprised of two large spaces one is fairly spacious and centered around the bar, while the other is cozier, featuring upholstered booths set among the renovated building's brick pillars. Large glass windows showcase the brewing equipment of Empyrean Ale, Lazlo's in-house brewery. The food at Lazlo's is generally good, although nothing too special or unusual for a brew pub. You can order appetizers like nachos, onion rings and spinach-artichoke dip, and entrees like steaks, burgers, salads and sandwiches. The restaurant's specialty is its hickory-grilled meat; while tasty, it doesn't seem too different from any other grilled meat. Come here if you're looking for a good handcrafted beer and that rather masculine brew pub atmosphere, but if you're looking for a special meal, you can do better at other Haymarket eateries.
