You won't find anything avant-garde in this handsome shop, inside a building built in the 1870s, but the paintings, photos and sculptures are no less beautiful for it. The pictures are nearly all high-quality reproductions rather than originals, but they're in good frames and the prices tend to run under $300, making for a very reasonable purchase. The styles are generally realistic or impressionist, with some prints of historic shots. Artists are sometimes at the gallery to sign their works for customers. If the artists aren't around, though, and you'd like to meet one, Zions Mercantile features work by painter Michael Bdard, whose studio is in a 150-year-old log cabin just behind the gallery. Feel free to visit him--Bdard welcomes walk-ins, and his space is one of a handful of quaint shops inside cabins next to the Zions Mercantile building, known collectively as the Nauvoo Village Shops. You'll also find Old Tyme Photo and Blue Fox, a craftsman who makes hobbyhorses.
