Picturesque views of the Cleveland skyline and Lake Erie make this beach park a sweet spot for catching sunsets.
The best thing about Edgewater Park is the skyline view, but the beach, fishing pier, playgrounds and open land provide a place to play all day. Cliff Drive--with its multiple pull-over spots--gives visitors a terrific view of Lake Erie and the Cleveland skyline. It offers some great spots for a sunset picnic. The pavilion, playground, and restrooms in this part of the park seem better maintained than those near the beach. The white-sand beach swimming area is relatively clean, but seems unkempt--cracked sidewalks with weeds make it feel shabby. Bathers can't count on much privacy in the restrooms/changing rooms, as the doors have holes where the locks should be and the showers have no curtains or doors. Two lifeguards watch over visitors, and boaters drive close to the swimming area. Signs indicate whether swimming is recommended based on pollution levels, but we noticed on our visit that many swimmers ignored the posted warning. The park, which is part of the larger Cleveland Lakefront State Park, is popular with nearby residents. Admission and parking are free, but there are fees to rent chairs, umbrellas or the popular one and two-bench surreys. (Think bicycle cars.) Pavilion picnic tables provide a shady spot to enjoy concession hot dogs, hamburgers and salads. The park's other options include a sand volleyball court and walking trails. You're also likely to spot a few folks flying kites in the open areas or fishing off the pier.
