Abraham Lincoln practiced law in Springfield from 1843 until about 1852. His partner, William H. Herndon, maintained their shared office while Lincoln served as U.S. Congressman from 1847 to 1849.

These days, interested visitors explore the preserved redbrick building through an orientation video, informative displays and 20-minute guided tours of the property. On Wednesdays during the summer, a costumed interpreter is on hand to portray Lincoln's law clerk. The site is open year-round, but times vary. Call ahead to double-check.
