About 30 percent of the inventory at this smart, sassy women's boutique in the city's arty Historic Third Ward neighborhood is consignment. The rest of the goods are either vintage, imported from Chicago and the coasts or exclusive offerings from Milwaukee designers. Dresses are the 1,200-square-foot store's specialty, and the mission at Lela--the name is a combination of the two owners' middle names--is offering the sort of stuff you won't see at the mall (or anywhere else in Wisconsin), including hip handbags, jewelry and the like. Prices range from $10 to $400, and the target market is women from 18 to 50. Lela regularly holds events, such as the runway show staged in the middle of Broadway for their anniversary in 2009 (which saw 500 people crammed under a white tent on the blocked-off street) or "Hot Santa," an in-store winter holiday celebration featuring a Ford model.
