For a restaurant that sits just off the lobby of the busy Hyatt Regency St. Louis, RED Kitchen & Bar does an excellent job of creating an intimate atmosphere in which to present an eclectic menu. This farm-to-table restaurant uses seasonal produce in a wide-ranging selection of small-plate dishes that encourage you to sample more than one and to share with your dining companions. It favors a fusion-style approach, as evidenced by interesting options such as risotto cakes with spicy chicken and jalapenos, bacon barbecue shrimp with corn and cheese grits, and beef tenderloin skewers with spicy peanut sauce. (Small plate prices ranged from $7 to $12.) The sleek, Euro-modern look incorporates a palette of browns and grays accented with spots of red. A segmented dining area allows you to decide whether you want a more intimate experience, a well-lit dining room feel or something close to the beautifully lit bar area. For those dropping by for just a drink, the full bar includes a variety of beers, including the locally brewed Schlafly, a selection of top-notch wines and an array of cocktails. Consider sampling the Satori (vodka, sake, lime, mint, cucumber and sugar, $9) or the Malandro (lebron cachaca, blood orange, basil, sugar, $9).
