Editor's Review

This unlikely upscale dining spot on beautiful Lake Pepin offers breathtaking views and a menu that could just as easily be found in Manhattan.
Lake City may seem an unlikely spot for an upscale dining venue, but Nosh is exactly that--an urban, contemporary restaurant that one might more easily find in New York City than a small town in Minnesota. Located on a lovely section of Lake Pepin, this place offers a charming spot to watch the comings and goings from a nearby sailboat marina. The breeze wafting across the outdoor patio is heavenly, and the views from the second-story dining room across Lake Pepin to the Wisconsin bluffs are gorgeous. The menu, with such entrees as seafood paella ($24.50), pan-roasted Alaskan ling cod ($23) and grilled beef tenderloin au poivre vert ($25.50), is sophisticated and ambitious. The chef describes the cuisine as Mediterranean-influenced American, and he uses locally grown, in-season produce to determine what he'll serve. For those seeking a less-expensive option, consider visiting from 3 to 5 p.m. and choosing small-plate items off the bar menu. We're not talking beer nuts here. Options might include a pizza of house-smoked andouille sausage, sweet corn, cherry tomatoes, basil pesto and Parmesan cheese or a Middle Eastern-spiced zucchini soup complemented with heavy crme fraiche and cilantro. The full-service bar offers a wide range of beers, wines and mixed drinks such as martinis and cosmopolitans.
