The Highway 513 scenic byway ends here where the Black River meets Lake Superior, for a day of hiking, camping, swimming, or simply relaxing.
Whether you're swimming, picnicking, camping, or simply out for a scenic drive, Black River Harbor provides a gorgeous backdrop for a relaxing afternoon. Black River Harbor, located just 15 miles north of Bessemer, is part of the Highway 513 scenic byway system. It's also one of only two harbors within the National Forest System. The spot is particularly dazzling in the summer when the wildflowers are in full bloom, and in the fall as the leaves are at their vivid peak--but it's a very pretty spot throughout the entire year. The river meets Lake Superior in a crescendo of four waterfalls, all viewed just minutes from the visitor parking lots. Park for the day and explore; access some of the 118 miles of Ottowa National Forest's hiking trails, launch or dock your boat for free, laze around on the sandy beaches, or reserve a campsite to ponder the bowl of stars above.
