This newly renovated, eco-conscious hotel provides great access to Chicago without breaking the bank.
This clean, contemporary European-style hotel focuses on providing efficient rooms for affordable rates. Using tasteful minimalistic design, the renovation of this 1927 Beaux Arts brick building into Chicago's first LEED silver certification hotel was exceedingly well-done. Thoughtful use of space makes the most of each room's small footprint. Complimentary wireless is available in all 225 rooms of this 12-floor hotel. (Rooms start at $129; parking $42.) The urban-chic restaurant Elate! occupies the hotel's northeast ground floor with floor-to-ceiling sliding windows that wrap around the corner. The ambiance of casual elegance is created by roughhewn concrete pillars, caramel leather sofa chairs, dark parquet floors and ochre-painted exposed pipes in the high ceiling. The restaurant features traditional American food and an extensive wine list. After relaxing with a drink, consider an even more relaxing massage at the on-site spa. The name Hotel Felix is derived from the Latin root word "felice" or "happy." Gimmicky, perhaps, but our overall stay was certainly pleasant.
