If you're in the Galena area and looking to buy organic produce, chicken eggs, baked goods and home-canned items, stop by Joyful Acres. This sweet country farm is a bit out of the way and is not well-marked, so it's not easy to find. Once there, if you don't see the owner, feel free to poke around the little shed where she sells her wares. Pretty soon she'll pop in from the garden to sell you some of the freshest produce around. The "acres" part is a bit deceptive, as the woman who owns the place just has one little garden, a chicken coop, and a tiny shed where she peddles her wares when she's home--all of the other acres belong to her home. The owner wasn't there when we arrived. No one was. We felt like we had pulled into someone's farmhouse and might be arrested for trespassing at any given moment. We finally found the little shed, which had a handwritten note tacked to it that the owner was out in her garden, and so we wandered inside. It looks like everything is made by her and the chickens, including eggs, baked and canned goods, and whatever she plucked from her garden that day. If we lived nearby, we'd be happy to visit regularly. But it's not a tourist destination, per se.
