Head to the tip of Michigan's mitten for long-standing destination skiing, golf and family fun.
Which season is best to visit? In winter, Boyne Mountain and its sister resort, Boyne Highlands, offer some of the Midwest's best slopes, with 114 runs for different skill levels. Lift tickets are interchangeable between the two resorts. If you're not into downhill, there are four terrain parks, an 18-foot superpipe, cross-country trails galore, snowshoeing and skating. Boyne is home to the acclaimed SnowSports Academy (downhill, cross-country, snowboard, freestyle) with professional instruction for all ages. Summer brings gearheads to the resort's excellent mountain biking trails. The ski lifts transform into scenic rides, and families enjoy Saturday night bonfires with s'mores. Boyne Mountain's two world-class golf courses (The Alpine and The Monument) open, too. There are a total of eight courses open to Boyne guests, with instruction available for all ages. Away from the greens, look for Zipline Adventures through the treetops, kids' wakeboarding clinics, a tennis academy, Fritz's Adventure Camp for kids and swimming (heated outdoor pool, giant hot tub). Not to be forgotten is the destination Solace Spa (manis, salon, massage, fitness), open year-round. Boyne Mountain is also home to Avalanche Bay, Michigan's largest indoor waterpark, comprising a whopping 88,000 square feet of slides, rides, a lazy river, pools and a surf simulator. Accommodations include rooms, suites, condos, cabins and villas. You can find more than a dozen varied places to grab a bite to eat; note that some are seasonal. Sister resorts are Boyne Highlands and The Inn at Bay Harbor. From $79.
