Enjoy a romantic, relaxing stay complete with a multicourse gourmet breakfast at this conveniently located Stillwater inn.
This Victorian B&B was once the living quarters of lumber baron Jacob Bean, and the current husband and wife owners have gone to great lengths to preserve its history. Though they have no relation to the original owners, they display Bean family photos throughout the house and are knowledgeable about the history. Enjoy a glass of wine or a mug of tea and some chocolate covered strawberries while sitting in the parlor with the proprietors -- their stories will bring the house to life for you. There are five guest rooms, each named for a Bean family member, whose historical connection to the room is available in detail on the website. Our personal favorite is the Tower Room, small and cozy, with a ladder leading to a turret that offers views of Stillwater and the bluffs along the St. Croix River. The other rooms are more spacious, a bit grander, and all have double whirlpool tubs. The entire mansion is being painstakingly restored one light fixture and roof tile at a time.Breakfast is tasty, too. We had a hot cranberry muffin, a hot pear stewed in a merlot reduction, vanilla yogurt and granola, and shirred egg crepe with a balsamic vinaigrette reduction. Not a bad start to a day spent wandering Main Street Stillwater, a few blocks away. From $149.
