Editor's Review
Bazbeaux dishes up both basic and gourmet pizzas for the Indianapolis masses amid cozy, funky confines.
At all three of its Indianapolis locations -- Broad Ripple, downtown and Carmel -- the Bazbeaux vibe is decidedly funky with a bohemian atmosphere, tattooed/pierced servers, and dependably good thin-crusted pizzas. These casual pizzerias draw a diverse, all-inclusive clientele that takes in families with kids of all ages, couples, business folks and groups of all backgrounds. The pizzas run the gamut from your basic pepperoni and sausage to some pretty out-there combinations of meat, veg, cheese and even seafood. The Pizza Alla Quattro Formaggio is a local fave, a blend of four cheeses with bacon and mushrooms on a cracker-like crust. More adventurous diners might want to consider other specialty pies like the Tchoupitoulas topped with Cajun shrimp, roasted red pepper, green pepper, red onion, Andouille sausage and fresh garlic; the Neptune with crab, shrimp, snow pea pods, black olives and green peppers; and the tuna melt-ish Viareggio. Bazbeaux also serves a dozen or so salads (ask for the Green Goddess-like creamy basil dressing); baguette sandwiches, muffaletta and strombolis; and a few frozen desserts. Open daily for lunch and dinner, Bazbeaux offers a short selection of wine and beer. For the best bargain, stop in between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to get a slice of the pizza of the day (or plain cheese), a salad and a drink for around $5, one of the best lunch combos in town.
