La Cantina is a friendly, family-run restaurant that blends traditional Italian favorites, like lasagna, spaghetti and veal Parmesan, with some more interesting options, like Pasta Emilio (spaghetti and olive oil tossed with pancetta, Italian sausage, peas, artichokes, bell peppers, onions and portabella mushrooms). You'll find the place packed, even during the week. The reason: incredible week-night specials, including a chicken Parmesan dinner with a side of spaghetti for $4.95 on Wednesdays and a spaghetti-and-meatball dinner for just $2.50 on Tuesdays. The discount prices draw legions of families, so don't worry about your kids fitting in. As for the dcor, it fits the stereotypical Italian restaurant, with red-and-white checked tablecloths, trellises and loads of straw-covered Chianti baskets hanging from the entryway ceiling. There's a great little wine shop attached to the restaurant. Don't be deterred by the neon "Beer" signs in the window. The shop is well-stocked, with a heavy emphasis on Italian wines. If you're after a a more romantic setting than La Cantina offers, consider taking advantage of the wine selection and packing a picnic for a nearby park.
