Sure, you can get a panoramic view of St. Louis from one of the downtown hotels or restaurants, but if you're looking for skyline vista with a different perspective, check out the Moonrise Rooftop Terrace. Located atop the seven-story Moonrise Hotel, this open-air bar has the Gateway Arch and the downtown skyline as its backdrop and offers a great place to watch the comings and goings of the bustling, brightly lit Delmar Loop neighborhood. Look beyond the hotel's iconic rotating moon and you might just get a nice view of the real thing. The bar is open every evening (depending on weather conditions) and, while it can get crowded, there's seating and standing room even on a busy Saturday night. The clientele skews toward the young side, but older patrons will feel at ease in this classy, well-lit atmosphere. Like the retro-style hotel in which it's located, the Terrace seeks to capture an earlier time by offering a cocktail list with such old classics as the Manhattan Perfecto, the Voodoo Sidecar, the Sazerac and the Blood & Sand. There are also a full range of wines and a wide assortment of beers, including several from the local Schlafly microbrewery. Specialty drinks cost $10 and you can order munchies such as marinated olives, spiced nuts, wasabi peas and toasted ravioli for $5.
