National cineplex company AMC Entertainment makes its corporate home in Kansas City, so it's no surprise that one of its theaters helps anchor downtown entertainment center the Power & Light District. The Mainstreet retains its elegant 1921 Beaux Art facade (or a close semblance thereof), but inside, it's fully renovated and no less classy for it. A giant popcorn light fixture hangs from the ceiling, while the lobby floor is covered with famous film quotes. Concessions are self-service to speed things along. And the former lobby is now the Marquee Bar & Grill, a full-service affair that serves drinks, too. Or, if you don't have time to eat before showtime and don't want to wait, patrons 21 and over can opt for a spot in one of the "cinema suites," small salon-like rooms whose seats have buttons for summoning waitstaff. Depending on where you sit, your seat may vibrate, too, if, say, something explodes on-screen.
