Test Kitchen Tip:

If you don't have 10 to 12 guests to feed, transfer leftover meat and sauce to an airtight container, cover, and chill up to 3 days. Reheat in a saucepan.

Shopping List:

For Brisket

  • 1 3-1/2- to 4-pound fresh beef brisket

  • 1 bottle chili sauce

  • 1 bottle liquid smoke

  • 2 1/2-ounce packages dried morel mushrooms (optional)

  • 2 large onions

  • 1 12-ounce bottle or can beer or 1 jar apple juice or cider

  • 1 bottle barbecue sauce

  • 2 12-ounce loaves ciabatta bread or 10 to 12 individual rolls

  • 2 quarts deli cole slaw

  • 2 or 3 12-packs assorted beers and carbonated beverages

For Cookies

  • 2 12-ounce packages semisweet chocolate pieces

  • 1 8-ounce package unsweetened chocolate

  • 1 pound butter

  • 1 dozen eggs

  • 1 package broken walnuts

  • 1 6-ounce package white baking chocolate

  • 1 8-ounce package semisweet chocolate

  • Worcestershire sauce

  • garlic salt

For Cookies

  • all-purpose flour

  • baking powder

  • salt

  • sugar

  • vanilla

  • shortening

  • measuring cups and spoons

  • cutting board and knife

  • resealable plastic bag

  • large dish

  • small bowls

  • rubber spatula

  • roasting pan

  • foil

  • forks

  • spoon

For Cookies

  • measuring cups and spoons

  • cookie sheets

  • heavy medium saucepan

  • wooden spoon or silicone spatula

  • large mixing bowl

  • medium bowl

  • electric mixer

  • wire cooling racks

  • small spoons or small resealable plastic bags for drizzling (use kitchen scissors to snip a small corner of bag)
