Home Sweet Confections
Use colorful candy to make fun garlands or topiaries for your home. The sweet garlands can trim a tree, grace a mantel, frame a doorway or festoon your table.
These quick-and-easy projects, which add a lighthearted touch to your interior, are good projects for the kids, too. Just gather the supplies&but be sure to have enough for some sampling as you work!
To make your garland, look for the juiciest colors of your favorite candy jar treats. Use decorative white cord from a craft or hobby store to loop and link sour-apple candy rings. A needle threaded with white dental floss or strong thread makes quick work of half-circle jelly candies. Saltwater taffies or hard candies in brightly colored wrappers join in a whimsical, chunky strand with a dot of hot glue connecting the twisted paper ends.
Another idea is to transform your table into a real-life candy land, with a small topiary at each place setting. They're easy to make.
Use icing to "glue" peppermints, candy canes or gumdrops onto a foam cone form sold at craft supply stores. For a dressy look, use silver candleholders as the foundation, or place the oh-so-sweet topiaries on a saucer for a more casual table. A name card looped around the base guides guests to their place.
To continue the candy theme at your table, create napkin "rings" by tying a piece of ribbon around your cloth napkins. Using hot glue, apply a peppermint to each ribbon. Then, slip a candy cane between the ribbon and the napkin.
