One way to simplify decorating is to use
what's on hand. An old wire
wastebasket filled with fruit and
greenery is an unexpected
front-door greeting.

Holiday Open House

(ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED: NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2004)

ORANGE-uplifting and optimistic-brings a fresh twist to Christmas entertaining. Mixed with frosty green, silver and rich copper accents, it's an unexpected, upscale take on traditional holiday decor. This look of luxury offers more than visual appeal, though. It's also surprisingly easy.

For many homeowners, these colors work better with year-round schemes than do bold reds and greens, meaning less decorative overhaul required. The ingredients are also simple. Oranges, apricots and tangerines are available at your supermarket. The accents are readily found at stores, or, even better, it's a great opportunity to show off heirloom pieces that bring a sentimental side to your holiday gathering.

"Tis a gift to be simple," it's said. Our concept is based on that tenet: repeating minimal easy-to-create vignettes, rather than filling every nook with complicated glitz. After all, you deserve to relax, too. Let the party begin!
