Inspired by an English country vacation, a Kansas City family creates a house that makes elegance easygoing.

Running throughout the house are antique chestnut floors in random 6- and 8-inch lengths, salvaged from an Ohio barn. "Wet-wall" plaster troweled over backerboard creates undulating textures, and lends depth and age to the painted walls.
