As master of the macabre, Edgar Allan Poe makes a natural Halloween muse. His vast collection of imaginative poems and stories inspired this frightfully fun party. (If you're not into Poe, any classic horror film, character or novel can inspire a sophisticated Halloween party theme.)

Greet your party guests at the door with a scene that hints of what's to come. We wrote the classic line from Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven" on a blackboard. (Hard black posterboard works, too.) Books feature the celebrated author's tales of terror, setting the tone of our party. A vintage typewriter puts an exclamation point on the literary theme.
