Going Global
Once permanent fixtures in European gardens, these reflective globes were thought to have magical powers, bringing good luck and happiness to their owners.
Today gazing globes enjoy popularity as outdoor ornaments, reflecting the garden landscape. But the spheres can make sparkling displays for interior spaces as well.
Try a pair of giant 22-inch silver gazing globes by your front door (directional). Just wrap the two stainless steel spheres with red ribbon, tying a bow at the top. Place each globe on a fresh evergreen wreath that has been place atop an urn. All you need to add is a wreath on your front door and some fresh garland.
Or reflect the glow of candlelight with a firebox arrangement (right). We created this stunning grouping by replacing the fireplace grate with cardboard boxes of different heights. Cut a hole in the top of the largest box so that the neck of the largest gazing globe fits partially through. Repeat with globes in other colors and sizes. Fill in gaps with greens and glass ornaments. Place tall candles at various spots, being careful to avoid any flammable greens or cardboard. Always use care when burning candles, even in a fireplace.
To continue your globe and ornament look, place smaller globes and glass ornaments in clear vases, hurricane vases and atop clear footed cake plates.
You can find gazing globes at garden and home centers.
