What You'll Need:
-
Two yards each of two fabrics (for valance)
-
One yard of fabric (for cafe curtains)
-
Scissors
-
Tension rod
Instructions:
Step 1: Sew using 1/2-inch seam allowances and with right sides together unless otherwise noted.
Step 2: For the valance back layer, cut two pieces of fabric 14 inches long and to the window width, plus 1 inch for seam allowances. Pin, then sew pieces together on three sides, leaving one long edge unsewn. Turn right side out and press the open edge under 1/2 inch.
Step 3: For the valance front, cut two pieces of fabric 12 inches long and 7 inches wider than window; trim short sides at an angle. Pin, then sew three sides, leaving the top edge unsewn. Turn right side out and press.
Step 4: Make a box pleat in the center of valance front and pin. Slip the top 1/2 inch between the pressed edges of back layer. Pin across top, securing all layers. Sew close to pressed edge through all layers. Fold valance over rod; sew buttons at front corners through all layers.
Step 5: For the cafe curtains, add a mitered border to sides and bottom of 32 x 32 1/2-inch white sheers. Turn under top edge of each panel 1/2 inch and press. Turn under an additional 2 1/2 inches; press. Sew parallel lines 3/4 inches and 2 inches from fold. Gather panels onto a tension rod.
