The 2009 Midwest Living Idea Home
In our 2009 Midwest Living Idea Home, we set out to modernize a 107-year-old house in Chicago's Lincoln Square neighborhood, with help from James Hardie.
Ripe for a Remodel
Though charming, the pre-remodel home was in need of a fresh exterior look.
Stripped Bare
After removing the white siding, you could catch a glimpse of the house's original exterior.
Wear & Tear
This view from the back of the house reveals the stress inflicted by 107 years of Chicago weather.
Picking the Color
For the house's new exterior, the owners chose HardiePlank Select CedarMill siding, in Heathered Moss with Mountain Sage accents.
Built to Last
James Hardie has developed the Hardie-Zone system to create siding specifically tailored to any climatic area.
Curb Appeal
To give the house a sophisticated exterior, the front elevation was accented with HardieShingle siding.
Completing the Look
To complete the new look, the windows were trimmed with smooth HardieTrim boards, and the soffits were finished with vented HardieSoffit panels.
Updated Look
