How to Create an “Apple of Your Eye” Centerpiece

Apples, oranges, and other fruits and nuts are traditional Yuletide decorations. Bring that old-fashioned feel into your home with this fresh, simple arrangement.
  • Apple arrangement

This simple holiday arrangement feels both fresh and traditional. To make it, you’ll need the following materials: florist's foam, a planter, fresh sprigs of greenery, incense cedar, cinnamon oil, florist's picks and green apples. Click ahead for step-by-step instructions.

  • Step 1: Cut foam and add greenery

Cut the block of florist’s foam so it’ll fit into your planter or vase and stand about an inch above the rim. Soak the foam in lukewarm water before positioning it in the container. Insert sprigs of greenery, such as the pine shown here.

  • Step 2: Add accent colors

Add another round of greenery. This time, you may want to use something with a little contrast, like this incense cedar with small golden berries.

  • Step 3: Prep apples

Dip florist’s picks in the cinnamon oil, then insert the picks into apples. The oil acts as an antiseptic to seal the punctures so the apples last longer—and it adds a festive scent.

  • Step 4: Add the final touches

Add the apples to your arrangement, and finish the look by placing greenery in any remaining bare spots. Your Yuletide centerpiece is ready to shine!
