DIY Holiday Crafts with Rocks and Paper

Did you see our November/December 2016 story "Rock, Paper, Scissors"? Here are more projects for a craft Christmas using rocks and paper.
  • Snowy texture

Paper falls like snow above this fireplace. To get the look, cut a scalloped-edge template from a strip of 4” wide paper that measures a few inches longer than your mantel. Clip four paper strips beneath the template to cut multiples. Repeat until you have enough to cover surface. Secure first strip to bottom of wall with double-sided tape. Continue up, overlapping so scallops alternate.

  • Rolling stones

One-of-a-kind river rocks with handcarved flat bottoms and hollowed cavities secure candies or small holiday plants. (Average diameter is 5-8 inches). From BoulderWorx; $30 (

  • Rock tidings

Spread festive messages on rocks with a Pigma micron marker. Or make rocks into place cards, gift tags or buffet table labels.

  • The write stuff

Hand-written labels make your vintage containers look oh-so-special.

  • Trestle table

Spray-paint Ikea trestle legs with Rustoleum metallic paint and top with birch plywood for an insta-table to support your rock, paper and scissors buffet.
