#2: Plant natives

Species naturally suited to our region require less water and maintenance and no pesticides. Good native plants for most Midwest gardens include goldenrod, little bluestem, Russian sage, zebra grass, butterfly weed, switchgrass, columbine, coneflowers and dwarf fountain grass.
