Decor Diva

With a talented team of employees, Mary Carol Garrity runs three shops in Atchison, Kansas: Nell Hill's (home accessories), G. Diebolts (fabrics and bedding) and Garrity's Encore (new and antique furniture). The big joke around the stores is that Mary Carol sells the beautiful life but doesn't have time to live it. Mary Carol chuckles, but considers herself lucky to be able to work and live her passions.

Some of those passions? Her idea of leisure is locking herself in her house and having the luxury to just putter. Her favorite book is Martin Wood's Nancy LancasteEnglish Country House Style, and she loves the movie Something's Gotta Give—for its beach house!

Mary Carol also writes books. The latest is Nell Hill's Entertaining in Style: Inspiring Parties and Seasonal Celebrations ($29.95; ISBN 0740760521).
