What are your decorating and business philosophies?
"Decorating: Good design doesn't have to be expensive. Business: Make it worth the drive. My average customer travels from one hour and 15 minutes to three hours. I want to be sure they have a good time, get a good buy and come back."
How do people know which styles or trends are right for them?
"Follow your heart. Don't buy things that don't have a personal connection to you. Find your personal likes and dislikes by looking through decorating books or magazines. Eventually, you'll see a commonality to the photos you gravitate to … a particular color, style or look that makes you feel good."
What decorating mistakes do you see most often?
"Locking into one look. When your home is saturated with one style, you'll tire of it. Also, don't be afraid to move accessories. Try things in different places, or switch things out from season to season. I layer in the winter and take away things in the summer."
How do you decorate for the holidays?
"I am using fewer decorations, concentrating on sentimental items that mean something to me. A beautiful tree with edited ornaments, color-coordinated to your home's decor, as opposed to traditional red and green. The amount of decor could depend on your holiday plans: Are you entertaining, or are you going away?"
