Slow Cooker Smokey Chili

Test Kitchen Tip: For an easy fruit side dish for the chili that will help to cool the taste buds, thaw frozen melon balls and toss them with honey and snipped fresh mint.

Shopping List

  • 4 ounces smoked Spanish chorizo or smoked sausage
  • 1 onion
  • 1 head fresh garlic
  • 4 medium or 6 plum tomatoes
  • 1 can chipotle chilies in adobo sauce
  • 1 small green sweet pepper
  • 1 small red sweet pepper
  • 1 container cumin seeds
  • 2-pound boneless beef rump roast
  • 1 bottle German rauchbier (smoked beer) or other dark lager
  • 14-ounce can beef broth (or use water)
  • 15-ounce can black beans
  • 6 ounces fresh green beans
  • 1 package long grain rice
  • 7- to 8-ounce container creme fraiche or dairy sour cream
  • 1 package flour tortillas
  • 1 package (12) baked dinner rolls
  • 16-ounce packages frozen melon balls
  • 1 package fresh mint
  • 24 cans beer and/or assorted carbonated beverages
