Test Kitchen Timesavers and Tips:

Order meat and cheese from your deli already arranged on a tray, or arrange your own try. Plan on purchasing 2 to 3 ounces sliced cooked meat and 1 ounce cheese per person.

If your gathering is not quite that big, halve the recipe for the salad. Make the whole batch of bars. Store extras in the refrigerator up to 3 days or arrange bars between layers of waxed paper in covered freezer containers and freeze up to 3 months.

For refrigerator-brewed iced tea, place 6 to 8 tea bags in a 2-quart glass container. Add 1 1/2 quarts cold water; cover and let tea "brew" in the refrigerator about 24 hours. Remove tea bags; discard. Serve over ice cubes. (Note: You may have read some information about the safety of brewing iced tea in the sun. The refrigerator method for making iced tea is fine to use for herbal and green teas as well as black tea because refrigeration inhibits the growth of bacteria.)
