Irish Soda Bread

Traditionally, Irish bakers made this classic, sweet quick bread in white or brown loaves -- and scored a cross into the top of each loaf to scare away the devil. Our recipe is for brown bread. Serve alongside a bowl of Luck Of the Irish Stew (previous slide), or purchased beef stew to save time.

Golden raisins give this bread a hint of sweetness that complements the meat and potato stew. We recommend baking the bread the day before you plan to serve it for better texture and slicing.
